Discovering Tokyo.

We have been here for almost two months and this past weekend we realized that was entirely too long not to have ventured into Tokyo.  So we grabbed our Pasmo (train) cards and headed to the big city.

I should note that our final destination in Tokyo was a Mexican restaurant.  We heard about this amazing little restaurant and wanted to seek it out for afternoon margaritas.  I mean everyone goes to Japan’s largest city for the tacos, right?!

Here is a breakdown of our day’s adventures.

Our first stop was Shibuya or, as I like to call it, Shi-boo-YAH (it can only be said that way if accompanied by a head shake.)  This is known as the Times Square of Tokyo.  I definitely see the similarities, do you?

Ready, set...
Go!

After people watching for awhile, we set out to find our tacos.  Instead, we got lost.  Luckily, when you get lost in Tokyo, there is still so much to see.

Please keep out, no wait, come in!
This is a pedestrian only street in Harajuku known for its fashion boutiques.  We weren't able to shop around this trip, but I can guarantee that I will be back.
Sarah and I dubbed this part of Tokyo the "Rodeo Drive" of Japan.  Don't let the stickers and graffiti fool you - they had quite the designer store selection.
After a little more exploration, we finally reached our Mexican restaurant.  I could taste the margaritas!  And then we saw that it was closed.  The hours were 5 pm - 5 am.  Of course.

Doesn't it look good, though?!
So plan B.  More walking and exploring.  We found a little alleyway filled with local restaurants.  There was a gyoza place that looked amazing, but we opted for the one with no line.

It's a Thai restaurant.  I promise, we do eat Japanese food.
Now full, we decided to seek out one more area of Tokyo - Roppongi.  Roppongi is known for its active nightlife scene, but we were there in late afternoon, so it was a little less busy.

This was the only shot that I got because it started raining.
After grabbing a quick drink in a random Irish pub (don't you love the diversity?!), we set out for home.  The bartender told Sarah to expect hurricane-like rain that evening.  We didn't believe him and would soon regret it.  After getting to our train stop, we had to purchase umbrellas for the walk home.  I kid you not, it was the worst rain I have ever seen.  The below picture does not do it justice.  There was a raging river going down those stairs.  And it isn't even rainy season yet!

It was an awesome day in Tokyo.  The best part is that we have so much more to discover.

Until next time, love from Japan!
