Life Made Easier in the City

Since moving to New York, I have found that New Yorkers are extremely creative in making life easier. This is due to lack of space, busy lives, logisitics and just the massive amount of human beings that live here. Here a couple new things I've discovered since moving here.

There are tons of space saving ideas and people get REALLY creative in taking advantage of the space in their apartments. Nick and I "think vertical" with shelves, hooks, bins. Although frustrating at times it's also fun to figure out where a new coffee mug will fit in the cabinet...haha. Pics of our apartment are below.

* When we moved into our little loft, our comfy couch (which I LOVE more than anything else we own) didn't fit in the stairwell or elevator. Have no fear...there's a company that specializes in taking people's furniture apart and moving it in and putting it back together.

* Yelp is my new best friend. Nick says "what's up with you and yelp?" and when I talk about it now he says "YELP!" haha. Yelp is offered for most cities, but I have found that people here use it allllll the time and it's SO HELPFUL. People review businesses to help others know if they should go there or not. I have avoided places or gone their just b/c of reviews. Restaurants, shops, dog parks, vets...it's awesome, but as a yelp member you have to review some businesses yourself or people will give you a hard time!

* Lifebooker is an awesome site where you can get appointments with top NYC salons, spas, gyms, and other health services at HUGE discounts. I get email alerts with Lifebooker "Loot" deals and have already booked two services (pre-wedding needs) at discounts of 50% off or more. I am convinced I'll never pay full price for anything in this city except food and rent!

* Fresh Direct is an online grocery store that delivers for only $5 plus a small delivery guy tip. I shop at a grocery store up the street and did an online comparison with Fresh Direct (who Yelp users say have very fresh produce!) and FD had cheaper prices on everything, but evened out when you add in delivery and tipping. You get to pick your delivery time and everything...really convenient for someone who doesn't like to grocery shop (me).

* Most big name stores...home depot, bed bath and beyond, etc have delivery services which is nice if you need it.

* Cabs take credit cards. Enough said.

* TimeOut is a magazine and website that tells about the many events, concerts, shows, SAMPLE SALES (shopping addicts...designer sell their excess clothing at a min. price!), restaurant openings, articles like "100cheap things to do in nyc"...if it's happening, time out reports it.

Ok enough...you get it, but just thought I'd share.

Love from the city!
