A B&B Weekend in New York

To celebrate Nick's birthday this past week I have been trying to plan something fun. At the last minute I finalized some plans for us to get away and stay at a bed and breakfast and ski in the Catskill Mountains which was about 2.5 hours west of the city. This was all a surprise to Nick which made it even more fun!

Neither of us have ever stayed at a Bed and Breakfast and the experience was awesome! Catskill Lodge is managed by David and his partner, Adam. It is a big 1800's Victorian house and was so clean and cozy! It also had modern amenities like a tv with dvd player in our room so we could watch a movie and a hot tub for after skiing. David, the manager, was also a great cook, so breakfast was really delicious!

I loved the whole experience...I love to meet strangers and find out their stories (Casey and I both love airports for this reason) and at a B&B you meet all the other guests! We met a family from Long Island with two kids and the husband and wife were really funny, another couple who were obviously very smart, ivy league undergrads, Harvard mba and med school (where they met), a married couple from Jersey and a young couple from New York City. On Saturday evening after skiing we all sat in the family room, drank wine and chatted...it was so great!

The other nice thing about this weekend is that we got to ski! It's something we love to do together and we've become decent skiers, so it was great to ski for the first time this season. Hunter Mountain was pretty good with 10" of new snow...we skied from 11-3pm and felt we definitely had our fill! We also enjoyed the apres ski activities at the mountain...beers at the lodge and then the hot tub at the B&B.

Overall it was a great way to get away from the stresses of daily life, slow down, and enjoy some time together. I would highly recommend a weekend like this for anyone :)

  1. Hi Leslie, it's Ninny! I heart your post about the B&B, Neil and I found one here in Portland that we stayed in while we were house-hunting and it was AWESOME. It was our first time in one and we are forever hooked now! We had our Moms stay there too when they came to Portland in January with us. Everyone is so friendly and the breakfasts are delicious!
